Lord Krishna and Sudama's Story
In Hinduism, the celebration is also known as Satyavrat Purnima. The origin of its name has a fascinating tale. One day, Lord Krishna urged Sudama, one of his closest companions, to observe a fast. Despite his declining financial and physical state, Sudama enthusiastically agreed since he had a strong affection for Lord Krishna. Sudama miraculously saw an improvement in his financial and physical well-being as soon as he observed the fast. Although he himself couldn't accept it, he eventually realised that it was his friend Lord Krishna's holy Maya. Since then, it has been widely accepted that fasting on this day can aid in overcoming problems with one's health and finances.
