The Raksha Bandhan festival in Haryana , Haryana India

Raksha Bandhan is quite similar to Bhai Dooj, which is celebrated on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha in the Kartika month. In Southern India, the festival of Bhai Dooj—also known as Yama Dwitiya—is celebrated the day after Diwali. It's a celebration that celebrates the relationship between siblings who will stand up for one another in times of need.

During the festival day, the sisters frequently pray for the brothers' longevity, prosperity, and well-being.

This holiday, which is also known as Bhai Teeka, Bhai Phota, and Bhau Teej, is wildly popular among Hindus. Married women invite their brothers to their in-laws' residences to observe this celebration on this day. The sisters put tika on.

The History Of Bhai Dooj

Bhai Dooj is related with a few legends, much like any other holiday. One of these legends says that after killing the demon king Narakasura, Lord Krishna went to his sister, Goddess Subhadra, and was warmly greeted. She prepared special treats and gave him flowers as a warm greeting. Also, she placed a tilak on his forehead as a success sign in the struggle against evil. Since that time, Bhai Dooj has become a holiday.

According to a second tradition, on the second day of the new moon, Yama, the God of Death, paid a visit to his sister Yami. Then the pleased sister gave him great food and treats.

In addition, he declared that if a sister gives their brother the aarti and tilak ceremonies, they will no longer be afraid of dying. And in the old land, this became known as the Yamadwitheya festival, which is currently celebrated as Bhai Dooj.

Another Jain mythology claims that when the religion's founder Mahavir gained Nirvana and was separated from his family, his brother Nandivardhan was deeply troubled by his choice and experienced immense anguish. His sister Sudarshana stepped in during this period to assist him recover and return to normal life. Because of this, Bhai Dooj is highly popular.
