On December 18, 1756, Guru Ghasidas was born at Giroudpuri, Chattisgarh. He was the son of Mahngu Das and Amrotin Devi and became one of the most revered religious leaders of his day as he grew older. Following Ghasidas, his son Guru Balakdas continued his father's teachings.

Historians claim that Guru Ghasidas was personally affected by the negative effects of the caste system from a very young age. And this made it easier for him to comprehend the problems with the caste-based society. It is also thought that he travelled a great deal in Chattisgarh in search of answers to this issue.

He worked hard to make society more egalitarian and peaceful while also eradicating the caste system. His adherents continue to practise his teachings and observe the Jayanti with tremendous fervour.
